Everyone is angry.
I’m sure that you have noticed.
We are all angrier than usual these days.
Everyone is talking.
No one is listening.
Eyes glaze over.
The volume increases.
The cacophony fades like static into the background
as we scream
desperately seeking to be heard.
no one is listening.
It’s almost like we’re living in some alternate reality
created by Springer
with Mamma Grizzlies and gun crazy Hee Haws.
Self centered righteous indignation
leads to anger.
Anger breeds more anger.
No one is immune.
Sometimes I can’t identify the source of my anger.
That makes me uncomfortable because,
if I can’t determine the cause, I risk taking it out on the innocent.
And that is just not right.
So I withdraw
from social interaction
just so I don’t inadvertently unleash my aggression on some poor unsuspecting soul.
Fresh air helps.
The political climate does not help.
is blown out of proportion.
is a scandal.
is an emergency.
How are we to identify real crises when everything demands our immediate attention?
News is no longer balanced.
Facts are twisted.
No one reads past the headlines.
Everyone has an opinion based often, on assumptions.
Never mind discourse.
Never mind trying to understand
another point of view,
another person’s experience
Never mind accepting
another person’s existence.
There’s little common courtesy.
It’s my way or the highway.
If your opinion differs, then you are the enemy.
And every day we get more angry.
Clear you mind.
Turn off the TV.
Put the phone away.
Power down the electronics.
it’s too late.
The 2013 TIME 100 was released a week ago. I’m always suspicious of lists. Often, they are nothing more than self promotion and mutual masturba back scratching. But I think Time Magazine got it right on at least three of it’s picks.
John Legend writes of Frank Ocean as a respected colleague and close friend. “Frank is brilliant,” he writes. “The day I started writing with him, it was clear that he has a very interesting mind and a distinctive way of expressing himself. He was fearless and innately creative. You talk to some people in this business and you get the sense that they’re very focused on radio: what will be a hit or won’t be a hit. You never get that from Frank. The focus is on creating something that’s beautiful, that’s great art.
A girl’s life was ruined by young men who thought they were above reproach. They got that way because we make excuses for athletes. We give them a “Get Out Of Jail Free” card.
More importantly, why do we have to “Teach Boys Not To Rape?” Shouldn’t that come under common sense? Why is it necessary? Does anyone really think there’s even the smallest possibility that these thugs didn’t understand what they were doing was wrong? Seriously?? They knew it was wrong. They did it anyway. Their crocodile tears are a result of being caught, nothing more.
And hey, that phone you’re carrying around, the one used to take pictures of that nearly unconscious girl being assaulted, can also be used to call for help when shit like this goes down. Instead it was used to document horrific behavior for the sole purpose of showing the world what an animal you are. In my opinion, you should go to jail for distribution of child porn.
An unintended side effect to all this is people begin to believe all athletes act like this. That can’t be true. Right?
